The Scrapstore PlayPod® is a process that transforms play at lunchtimes enabling:
🔹 Happier children
🔸 Significantly fewer incidents and accidents
🔹 Children returning to class ready to learn
🔸 Empowered lunchtime staff
🔹 Positive parental responses
In 2015 the PTA provided money for Blagdon Primary School to invest in the Playpod Scrapstore. This holistic process works with the entire school community to change both the human and physical play environment transforming play at lunchtimes. Full training and mentoring was provided to staff to ensure that all risk is managed but that children learn in a vibrant and challenging way through play. The Playpod itself sits in the corner of the playground outside Blagdon Pre-school. Materials are delivered several times a year by the Playpod team and old items discarded. All items in the Pod are recycled and the children use their imaginations to play with them. The excitement and energy in the playground when the Pod is open is palpable.
Playpod is open most lunchtimes unless it is really wet. On these days play is encouraged with ball games, hoola hoops, skipping ropes and our very own, highly trained play leaders. Our Year 6 children have all undertaken Playleader training learning how to set up playground games, provide children with a safe and caring point of contact other than an adult which helps to develop leadership skills.
