Welcome back for the new year!
May I take this time to welcome our new Year 5s to Class 4 and a warm welcome back to our new Year 6s.
It has been a really busy few weeks back already. We have been using our Mark Making skills to perfect our presentation, learning poems off by heart and writing & performing our own.
We have already written our first extended bit of writing and are about to edit them. In maths, we have worked on our place value, before moving onto the start of our 4 operations work. We have also started our new topic and science units.
The class have worked so hard this week by completing a set of past SATs papers. Year 5 also tried their hand at a couple of them! This is a very useful thing to go through at this time in the year, as it takes away the stigma of a SATs paper; the children get used to the layout and questioning; they can see what they are working towards; it shows what they are confident at and also the gaps that we will work on throughout the year. It also gives a good comparison for when the Year 5s do theirs again next year. I was very impressed with all of them and they were rewarded by an extra PE session Friday afternoon!
Well done to our new Sports Crew, who will be having their training in the next couple of weeks, and to our new House Captains!
As always, we encourage regular reading at home and ask for an adult to hear their child read 5 times a week and to sign their diaries to show this. Please can we also ask for PE kits to be in everyday - especially at the moment when we can make the most of the sun!
Now that routines are set in place, homework will be commencing next week. It will be handed out on Wednesdays and will be expected in on Tuesdays. If there are any problems any week, please come and see me or write a letter/email.
If you have any questions or just want a general chat, please feel free to come and see me - my door is always open... unless it's windy... because the leaves just blow straight through!
Have a great weekend and see you all next week!
Keep Right On!
