Enrichment & Cultural Capital

At Blagdon Primary, we are passionate about enrichment and cultural capital. Throughout the year all pupils participate and explore in a wide range of activities as we seek to excite and engage the children in their learning and their awareness of the wider world and our local area. Our curriculum offer is broad and balanced to enable them to excel - we value all curriculum areas. This is reflected within each class’s provision and via the enrichment and focus weeks and days that appear throughout the year, for example science week, anti-bullying week, e-safety week.

Our beautiful location is used in many ways to enhance and enrich our learning throughout the year. Thoughtful links are made in a wide range of areas such as maths, geography, history, science, English, PSHE and art. With the Mendip Hills and Blagdon Lake on our door step to explore and a village steeped in history, we are aware of how fortunate we are to be able to access these areas with ease.

We plan our enrichment activities to support learning in class while also providing additional extra-curricular learning too. Each class has a programme of enrichment activities that excite and build experiences throughout their time at Blagdon.

Our Sycamore Class children go on camp on alternating years. By visiting an outdoor adventure location, they take part in a range of activities including things such as assault courses, climbing, sea activities, archery and many others. Activities can be tailored to the needs of all pupils.

For our Year 6 pupils, nearing the end of their time in primary school, we have an additional range of experiences to allow them to challenge themselves in different ways and builds confidence and self-esteem as they prepare for them to continue to excel from the beginning of their secondary school education.

Parental involvement

We are incredibly fortunate to have an active parent body who are keen to support and become involved in pupil learning. We really appreciate the time that our parents take to help in school, whether it is a regular visit to support in a classroom with reading or art or by helping on a one-off occasion such as a trip or by sharing knowledge and expertise linked to one of our curriculum areas. If this is something that you are interested in and are able to do then please contact either the school office or your child's class teacher.
